Everyone knows that smoking is not only extremely harmful to your own health, but also to the health of those around you. Moreover, it is common knowledge that smoking is linked to lung cancer, throat cancer and mouth cancer, but bladder cancer?
According to a new study, more than 50% of bladder cancers are the result of smoking tobacco. The study found, however, that if doctors spoke to patients regarding their smoking habit during diagnosis, there was a greater likelihood of the patient quitting.
Bladder cancer is one of the most costly cancers to treat in the United States because even when it is diagnosed early, it often reoccurs. However, if a patient quits smoking when diagnosed it does reduce the risk that the cancer will return or spread to other areas of the body. Just one more reason to quit smoking!
