Well it seems as though Matt ‘The Dark Knight’ Harvey of the New York Mets has been experiencing a bit of a urological issue as of late. Various reports from last week have claimed that the young but dominant MLB pitcher has had blood in his urine, which, while not directly related to baseball, had created a bit of concern for his team managers. He eventually landed in the hospital where he underwent a ‘minor procedure’. According to the New York Times, the cause was that Harvey apparently had an infection in his digestive tract which in turn led to a blood clot in his bladder. Evidently it was not terribly serious or of much worry to him or his coaches, as he was cleared to play shortly after. Thanks to his urologist New York City got to enjoy the talented pitcher on opening day the following Sunday.
If you’re a male reader, this story concerns you. What was it that caused Harvey to come down with the infection, eventually leading to a blood clot that caused him to have blood in his urine and experience discomfort while going? According to the Daily News, it was because he was holding in his urine for too long while playing. Let this be a lesson to anyone who places work over nature. When nature calls, you better respond, or your body will make you pay. Albeit, it’s not the end of the world, as blood clots pass through the body through urination. So just so long as you’re generally in good health, your body should fix itself once you finally let it go. But, the longer you wait, the worse off you’ll be. Don’t let it get to something serious.
Other potential causes for having blood in your urine include urinary tract infections (UTI), kidney stones, or, believe it or not, strenuous exercise. And no, that does not give you an excuse to stop working out. You are not a professional athlete and if you are like the other 90+% of our readers, you are probably not putting enough stress on your body to cause there to be blood in your urine.
If you are, however, experiencing these symptoms, the cause could range from severe to easily fixable. The best course of action whenever experiencing a medical problem with which you are unfamiliar is always to speak to a professional. Fortunately, you need not look far to find yourself a reliable urology doctor. NYC is known to have some of the nation’s best medical care.
